Tip #1 - Empty the ashtrays all the time

There is a specific order behind the bar and it goes as follows: Make drinks for your customers and servers, check your bar for food orders and refills, empty ashtrays, restock, and everything else. There are only two things more important than emptying ashtrays and that is making drinks and taking food orders.

I go by a rule of thumb, one butt (cigarette butt), two butts, my butt. If there is ever 3 cigarette butts in an ashtray on my bar it is a horrible night and my income will reflect it. Smokers appreciate having a clean ashtray and they notice. You will be rewarded with compliments and cash.

Tip #2 - Don't ask bar customers if they want another drink just get them one

This especially applies to regular customers and beer drinkers, when someone is about ? full on their drink and they have not asked you for a check or made any movement like they are planning to leave, get them another drink. You will get two reactions, either they will think you are buying it for them, which happens and you just kindly remind them that they looked thirsty and you are trying to do the best job for them possible, or two they will be amazed at your service. Either way your tip is going to rock

Tip #3 - Don't ever refuse to give a customer a water or anything else non alcoholic at closing, especially if they seem drunk

Yes they may have already tipped you for that night, but refusing to serve them water or something else that is non alcoholic will hurt your tip next time around, if they ever come back. This has happened to me as a patron and I don't go back to that place. If your customer seems intoxicated or even if they don't it is in yours and the bars best interest to let them sit and sober up a bit with water while you clean and close down.

This will save you from an unnecessary lawsuit from a drunken driving accident. Plus next time they come in they will remember the favor you did for them and thank you with a nice tip.

These three tips can bring you more cash than you ever thought possible as a bartender. There is nothing better than giving the best service to a not so good tipper and making them feel so guilty that they personally thank you and leave you more than they would normally leave.
